Royal Marine To Be Sentenced For Terrorism Offences
A Royal Marine from Northern Ireland is to be sentenced for terrorism offences today, 26 July.
Ciarán Maxwell, who is originally from Larne but has an address in Devon, pleaded guilty to terrorism related offences including making bombs and storing military weapons in February this year.
He admitted to the charges between January 2011 and August 2016 at the Old Bailey.
He stashed explosives in purpose-built hides in England and Northern Ireland and compiled a library of terrorism documents.
He also had maps, plans and lists of potential targets for a terrorist attack, images of an adapted PSNI pass card and uniform.
The Sentencing hearing begins at the Old Bailey today and could last up to three days.

Two Men Jailed For Firearms-Related Offences
Two men have been jailed for a total of seven years at Belfast Crown Court, having previously pleaded guilty to firearms-related offences. Matthew Charles Johnston, aged 42, was sentenced to four years in custody and will be subject to a Terrorism Notification Order for 10 years.

Elderly Man Accused Of Raping Minor
A 67-year-old man is to appear in court today, charged with raping and indecently assaulting a minor. The man was detained by police yesterday. It is believed the alleged offences took place in east Belfast between 2005 and 2006. The man is expected to appear before Belfast Magistrates Court this morning, police said.
