Call For PPS To Review Three-Year Sentence Of Eddie Girvan Killer
The Public Prosecution Service (PPS) is being urged to refer a three-year prison sentence a heroin addict received over the brutal killing of Greenisland pensioner Eddie Girvan to the Court of Appeal.
Margaret Henderson-McCarroll, 31, was handed the sentence after she pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of the 67-year-old victim.
East Antrim MLA Gordon Lyons said: "People in Greenisland are therefore shocked and outraged at the unduly lenient sentence that has been handed down. The justice system should be able to demonstrate that those who commit serious and dangerous crimes will face the full rigour of the law. Sentences like this do not send a clear message to those who are criminals and who seek to destroy life and property. The taking of a life should result in more than just three years in prison.
"I would urge that the PPS refer this decision to the Court of Appeal so that an appropriate sentence can be imposed and that justice would be done."

Three benefit frauds from across NI have been handed down gaol sentences for defrauding the Government of money to which they were not entitled. James Logue (45) of Main Street, Castlederg was convicted at Strabane Magistrates' court after he claimed Housing Benefit totalling £2,057 by making a false statement of occupation.
