Man Left Unrecognisable After Being Brutally Beaten In Co Antrim

A man has been left unrecognisable to his closest family after being brutally beaten in Newtownabbey, Co Antrim.

Anthony McMahon, aged 59, was left unconscious and barely breathing in a pool of blood following an assault in a carpark in the Longwood Road area at around 10.40pm on Tuesday, 15 August.

He sustained life-changing injuries and will have to undergo reconstructive surgery, the PSNI have said.

Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them.

Detective Inspector Chris Millar said: "We would like to hear from anyone who was in the Longwood Road area on Tuesday night. Whether you were just passing through, visiting the retail park or were there for any other reason, you may be able to help us."

Police have released a CCTV image of Mr McMahon as part of their appeal.

Fresh Appeal For Information On Assault Of Anthony McMahon
Police have issued a fresh appeal for information on a serious assault in Newtownabbey in August 2017. 59-year-old Anthony McMahon was found unconscious with severe head and facial injuries in a carpark on Longwood Road at 10:40pm on Tuesday, 15 August.

Police Officers Disciplined For Failing To Tell Doctor About Woman's Head Injuries
Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.
