Murphy hosts special reception for children's charities

Secretary of State, Paul Murphy has held a special reception in Hillsborough Castle for children suffering from a life limiting illness where he handed over tickets for family trips to Lapland to meet Santa Claus.

Earlier this year, Friends of Children, a Newry based charity that raises funds for Sargent Cancer Care, Downs Syndrome and the Children's Hospice, invited Mr Murphy to their gala ball to present three families with their tickets to Lapland.

The Secretary of State was unable to attend the event but invited the group and their families to afternoon tea in Hillsborough. He said: "I was disappointed to miss the gala ball in September but I was delighted to welcome the children and their families to Hillsborough.

"Friends for Children and other similar organisations are an inspiration to us all. They show selfless devotion to improving society and for the valuable work they do on a daily basis, we are all in their debt."

Special Olympian Peadar Connolly, who won a medal at this year's games, also accompanied the group on their trip to Hillsborough.
