Women's Euro Championships Has 'Inspired A Generation' - Foster

DUP leader Arlene Foster has praised all those involved in the successful Women's Euro Championships Under 19 tournament, held in Northern Ireland.

Mrs Foster said that the event has "inspired a generation".

She said: "The Women's U19 Euro Championships has been a successful and inspiring tournament. I was delighted to attend the opening ceremony, which welcomed many young women from across the world to Northern Ireland.

"This event has inspired a generation, displaying a positive image of football which will no doubt encourage many others to consider the opportunities sport can provide. Sport brings people together and develops our young people. The tournament has provided women's football in Northern Ireland with a lasting legacy, which will have a real positive influence moving forward. All involved have been incredible ambassadors for Northern Ireland and are to be congratulated.

"The NI U19 team and their manager Alfie Wylie are to be praised on their outstanding performance and spirit throughout the competition, scoring their first point and first goal in the finals of an international tournament, with goal scorer was Louise McDaniel.

I congratulate IFA on securing the tournament for Northern Ireland, the Local Organising Committee lead by Sara Booth and for the professionalism of all involved.

"Sportsmen and women always talk of the pride that playing for their country brings. With the end of the tournament yesterday, I'm sure those who took part will never forget the experiences they had in Northern Ireland."
