NI Circumstances Must Be Recognised In The Brexit Deal – NIFHA
The Northern Ireland Federation of Housing Associations (NIFHA) said it is "crucial" that the unique circumstances of Northern Ireland are recognised in the Brexit deal.
Chief Executive Ben Collins said housing is a fundamental need for everyone.
He also said housing is a key economic driver for the construction industry.
Mr Collins said: "It's essential that this can continue to operate on an all-island basis. Our member housing associations have built more than 49,000 quality, affordable homes in Northern Ireland. The sector employs nearly 3,000 people and manages assets worth £3.8bn.
"The recent funding from the EIB is very welcome and we would hope that these funding opportunities will also be maintained post-Brexit. NIFHA will continue to argue this case on behalf of the sector."
Marks And Spencer To Create 80 Jobs In Craigavon
Upper Bann MLA Jonathan Buckley has welcomed the announcement that Marks and Spencer are to create 80 jobs with the opening of a new store.
He said: On the 50th anniversary of Marks & Spencer opening in Northern Ireland this is very welcome news for the Craigavon area. It is a further boost to the retail mix within Craigavon and to the local economy.
"The creation of 80 new jobs is a very welcome announcement. I am delighted that the company have decided to invest in Craigavon and particularly that they are taking on the former B&Q store which closed back in 2016 with the loss of 50 jobs."
Call For Pay Cap For Public Sector Workers To Be Lifted Immediately
The DUP-Tory pay cap should be lifted for all public sector workers immediately, not just a select few professions, Sinn Féin MP Paul Maskey has insisted.
The West Belfast MP was speaking following reports that the British Government is preparing to scrap the one percent pay cap for police and prison officers.
He commented: "The Tory public sector pay cap has been a cynical and damaging attack on workers, and has been at the heart of their brutal austerity programme.
"It was also insulting to many workers to see the DUP turning up to 'scrap the cap' events despite having voted with the Tories to extend it back in June.
"The indications are that the Tories are now set to lift the cap on some public sector workers, namely police and prison officers. That simply isn't good enough. It should be lifted immediately for all public sector staff and this ongoing assault on workers brought to an end."
