Man And Woman Attacked In West Belfast

Police have launched an investigation after a man and woman were seriously attacked at a house in west Belfast.

The assault happened at a property on St Galls Avenue at around 12.45pm on Sunday, 10 September.

A man, armed with a hammer, knocked on the door. A woman answered and he punched her in the face.

Her husband came to help her, however he was hit a number of times with the hammer and further assaulted by another woman.

The male suspect also smashed windows in the house and a car and made off from the scene on foot.

The man was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Detective Sergeant Stephen Gardiner said: "The male involved is described as being in his late 20s / early 30s, slim to medium build, wearing glasses, a baseball cap, grey tracksuit bottoms and a dark-coloured top."

A 32-year-old was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and has been released on bail, pending further enquiries.
