Woman Dies In House Fire In Co Down

A woman has died in a house fire in Co Down.

Emergency services were called to the blaze at a house in The Green in Holywood just before 12.15pm on Wednesday, 27 September.

The woman, aged in her 50s, was discovered dead at the scene.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.

North Down DUP MLA Gordon Dunne said: "There is a real sense of shock within the local community at the sudden death of this lady and I would like to pass on my thoughts and prayers to the family at this sad and tragic time.

"The close knit community within the Redburn and Loughview area will certainly rally around and support the family circle at this difficult time.

"I would like to express our thanks to all the emergency services including the Fire and Rescue Service, Air Ambulance Service and PSNI for their rapid response in attending to the scene of the tragic incident; but sadly they were unable to save the life of this lady."

Woman Dies In House Fire In L'Derry
A woman has died in a house fire in Co L'Derry. The blaze was reported at a property in the Grange Park area of Limavady at around 6.25am on Monday, 17 July. Emergency services attended however the woman, aged in her 50s, was found dead at the scene. An investigation has been launched.

ASSEMBLY CREATE AWARD TO HONOUR FIRE SERVICE
THE Northern Ireland Fire Service is to receive the first ever award given by the province's devolved assembly. An illuminated scroll is to be presented to Chief Fire Officer John McClelland on Tuesday, by assembly speaker Lord Alderdice in tribute to the sacrifice made by fire fighters over the years.

NIFRS Launches Online Home Fire Safety Check Tool
The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) has introduced a new online tool to help residents assess their home fire safety. The Home Fire Safety Check coincides with Fire Safety Week, which runs from September 30th to October 6th. The initiative aims to reduce the number of house fires in Northern Ireland.

SF Calls For Action On NI Mental Health Services
Sinn Féin has called for more to be done to improve mental health services across the north of Ireland. The party's mental health spokesperson, MLA Órlaithí Flynn, made the call after the release of the Registrar General's 2023 Annual Report which has highlighted an increase in deaths by suicide in 2023.

Elderly Woman Dies In North Belfast House Fire
An elderly woman has died in a house fire in north Belfast. The woman, believed to be in her late 80s, had lived in Rosepenna Parade. Neighbours attempted to break into the house but were not able to help the woman. Emergency services attended the scene and controlled the blaze.
