Half Of Rubbish From NI Households Is Being Recycled
Half of the rubbish from households in Northern Ireland is now being recycled, according to new statistics.
The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) welcomed the latest Waste Management Statistics Through the co-operation of households, and it also expects to see sustained improvements in recycling in the coming months and years.
Philip McMurray, Head of Recycling Policy in DAERA, said: "I am delighted to see this improvement in recycling rates in the latest Northern Ireland recycling statistics and I am grateful to local Councils and especially to householders for their continued efforts. However, we cannot be complacent. Recycling your food waste can seem strange at first but for most people it soon becomes second nature. And yet such a simple change can make a huge difference. Keeping food waste out of landfill not only helps prevent climate change, but the waste can be turned into a valuable resource for our parks and allotments and the process has already created jobs."

£132k To Prevent Food Waste In L'Derry
A £132,000 grant from the Department of the Environment's Rethink Waste Fund has been approved to help prevent food waste in L'Derry. The money has been provided through the Department's Rethink Waste Fund, supports the Food Waste Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2015 to divert food waste away from landfill and into recycling.
