Firefighters Extinguish Blaze At Derelict Building In Co Armagh

Emergency services have extinguished a blaze at a derelict building in Co Armagh.

The fire happened in the High Street area of Lurgan at around 4.30am on Sunday, 26 November.

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) attended the scene and put out the blaze.

It is believed the fire started after rubbish was ignited and it developed extremely quickly.

DUP MP David Simpson said: "I have been in contact with the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service who have been working to tackle the blaze and are now assessing the structural damage of the building and surrounding properties.

"The scale of fire was significant and we must allow the emergency services time to carry it their investigations but I am assured that the area will reopen as soon as possible.

"I would like to pay tribute to our emergency services who were on the scene quickly and dealt with the blaze efficiently."

Man Dies In House Fire In Co Tyrone
Police have launched an investigation after a man died in a house fire in Co Tyrone. The blaze happened at property on the Lissan Road in Cookstown on Tuesday morning, 15 November. Emergency services attended the scene however the man, aged in his 80s, was found dead at the scene. The fire is not believed to be suspicious.

Major Fire At Industrial Unit In Co Armagh
Emergency services are at the scene of a major fire at an industrial unit in Portadown, Co Armagh. The blaze happened on the Drunnacany Road on Monday, 24 October. The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service are at the scene and residents in the area have been advised to keep their windows and doors shut.

Lidl Northern Ireland has announced the reopening of its Stewartstown Road store in West Belfast and the opening of a new store in Carryduff. The Stewartstown Road store, which has undergone a major redevelopment, will reopen on December 5th. The new Carryduff store, Lidl’s 43rd in Northern Ireland, will open on December 12th.
