Police Appeal After Substantial Damage Caused To Church During Break-In
Police are appealing for information following a burglary at a church in east Belfast.
The break-in at St Patrick's Church on the Newtownards Road happened between 9pm on Friday, 19 January, and 10am on Sunday, 21 January.
Substantial damage was caused, according to the PSNI.
A police spokesperson said: "Police are appealing for information from anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious during this time. If you believe that you may have information relevant to this investigation please phone 101 quoting reference number 459 21/01/18."
Alliance Councillor David Armitage described the attack as "shocking".
He said: "This is a shocking attack on a place or worship, carried out by thugs who have shown a complete lack of respect to all those who value the presence of this church in their daily lives.
"I have been in touch with the Minister and his wife this afternoon to aid him not only to outline to local resources available to them as they move forward, but also to reaffirm my support and the support of the local community in standing against the perpetrators."

The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Detectives have renewed an appeal for information following a deliberate arson attack at a vacant property in the Weaver's Grange area of Newtownards. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, 17 November, 2023. Police and firefighters were called to the scene at around 12:40am.

Church destroyed in arson attack
Police blieve that a fire which badly damaged a church in Newtownabbey was caused by arsonists. The interior of Whitehouse Presbyterian Church on the Shore Road was gutted in the blaze which was discovered at about 3.30am this morning. A number of vehicles in an adjoining car dealership were also destroyed in the attack.

Police Renew Appeal For Information On Taxi Driver Attack
The PSNI have renewed an appeal for information on an attack on a taxi driver in L'Derry on Saturday 05 August. In the incident, the taxi, a silver coloured Citroen Xsara, was travelling on Northland Road at around 11.30pm, when a man jumped onto the bonnet of the car, before smashing the driver side window with his fist.

Police appeal for information on County Down attack
Police in Rathfrisland are appealing for information after a man was assaulted on Sunday evening. The man was attacked some time before 8pm on John Street and received cuts to the head and hand. He received hospital treatment for his injuries.
