Innovate UK Announces £19m Funding Competition
Innovate UK has announced a new £19 million innovation competition, aimed at supporting changes in productivity and cutting-edge innovation.
The latest competition has two strands:
• strand 1 for health and life sciences projects
• strand 2 for emerging and enabling technologies projects
Projects under strand 1 must show significant innovation in one of these priority areas:
• increasing agricultural productivity
• improving food quality and sustainability
• advanced therapies (cell and gene therapies)
• precision medicine
• medicines discovery
• advanced biosciences
Strand 2 projects must show significant innovation in one of four priority areas:
• emerging technologies (biofilms, energy harvesting, graphene, new imaging technologies)
• digital
• enabling capabilities, including electronics, sensors and photonics, robotics and autonomous systems, creative economy and design
• space applications
All projects must involve at least one small or medium-sized business, working alone or in collaboration with other organisations. Projects with costs over £100,000 must be collaborative and include a funded partner.
Deadline for applications to both strands of the competition is 28 March 2018.
A briefing event has been announced to take place at the Nanotechnology and Integrated BioEngineering Centre in Jordanstown on Friday 2 February 2018.

Up to £15 million funding is available for innovative research and development projects in an open competition announced by Innovate UK. The UK-wide competition is aimed at "fast-tracking the best business-led ideas or concepts", with proposals accepted from any industry of technology sector.

Ms Carragher was appointed through an open competition run by the Department of Culture Media and Sport (DCMS) which has overall responsibility for UK Lottery Matters.
