Plans to Cut Neighbourhood Renewal By 11% Are 'Unacceptable' - SDLP
SDLP Cllr Tim Attwood has said a proposal from Department for Communities to cut Neighbourhood Renewal by 11% is unacceptable. In 2008/09 the Neighbourhood Renewal Budget was £24/25 million today its around £18 million.
He said: "Neighbourhood Renewal is meant to be the flagship programme to tackle poverty and disadvantage. Now there is an attempt by DFC to completely undermine this important programme.
"Let's be clear, if these cuts are implemented it means some front line organisations will close and important services helping the most vulnerable in our society will be lost. We will be working with community organisations to oppose these cuts and call on DFC to reverse this decision."
