EA Criticised Over Plans To Merge Special Schools
The Education Authority (EA) has been criticised over plans to merge several special schools in Belfast.
Sinn Féin MP Paul Maskey said the proposals have come "completely out of the blue".
He said: "This sudden announcement has caused considerable alarm and distress. These pupils and their parents deserve to be treated with more respect and consideration.
"It is essential that any proposals are subject to a thorough consultation that takes on board the views of parents and children. The interests of children must be paramount.
"Sinn Fein will watch this process very carefully as the EA have had difficulty meeting the needs of special needs children in the past particularly with respect to transport, the statementing process and nursery provision."
