DUP MLA Hits Out At Trolls Over Online Abuse
DUP MLA Carla Lockhart has hit out at online trolls after being attacked on social media.
The Upper Bann politician said abusive comments were aimed at her and party leader Arlene Foster after uploading a photograph to Twitter of the pair at a DUP event in Fermanagh on Friday, 13 April.
It is understood a number of derogatory remarks were posted about Ms Lockhart's appearance, as well as criticism of Mrs Foster in relation to the RHI Inquiry.
Speaking to the BBC, Ms Lockhart said: "This is bullying. It's harassment of women in political life.
"I am more than open to people debating about political beliefs and policy but these were very personal. We all have features that we would maybe change."
Sinn Fein MLA John O'Dowd described the online abuse as 'wrong and inexcusable'.
"I disagree with many aspects of Carla's politics but there is no excuse for the online personal abuse she has suffered," he said.
"The online bullying of Carla and other public representatives particularly women by online trolls must end."
On Twitter, UUP Leader Robin Swann said: "Online trolling unacceptable at any level and is only encouraged by @Twitter permitting anonymous accounts. Abuse directed at elected representatives and people in the public eye just too easy for big brave key board warriors."

NI Businesses Lose Over £2m Following Online Crime
Firms in Northern Ireland lost over £2 million following online crime last year, according to new figures. Figures from Get Safe Online and Action Fraud show 247 cases were reported with total losses amounting to £2,152,343 between March 2015 and March 2016. However, police believe the overall losses could be higher.

She said: "The purchase of Twitter by Elon Musk doesn't change the fundamental questions which face social media platforms. "Support for free speech does not and should not mean turning a blind eye to threats and vile abuse.

Justice Minister Encourages Reports Of Online Hate Crime
Justice Minister Naomi Long is urging victims of online hate crimes to file a report to police to allow them to get the support they need. Ms Long encouraged members of the public to "call it out" and help police catch online perpetrators at an Online Hate Crime Event at Belfast City Hall.

Arrest As Baby Found Dead In Lurgan
An investigation has been launched after a baby was found dead at a house in Lurgan this morning, Wednesday 28 August. Police said a 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of child cruelty, possession of a Class A drug and possession of a Class B drug. He has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.
