DUP Welcome EU Commitment To Ongoing Reconciliation Funding
DUP MEP Diane Dodds has welcomed commitments included in the EU's draft budget for 2021-2027 for new cross-border peace and reconciliation funding programmes benefiting Northern Ireland post-Brexit.
Commenting, Mrs Dodds said: "This proposal will be rightly welcomed across the board. The Peace and Interreg programmes have made a valuable contribution to stable progress in Northern Ireland over many years. While the budget for these schemes post-Brexit has not been specified, this constructive announcement builds on the December Joint Report in which both the EU and UK committed to exploring possibilities for future support.
"As the United Kingdom leaves the European Union in March 2019 it is essential that local needs in Northern Ireland are accounted for when deciding new programme priorities. The DUP will continue to work at Westminster and in Brussels to ensure that communities living with the legacy of terrorism and division receive the greatest level of benefit from any new injection of investment."
