NI Must Align With Customs Union And Single Market - Hanna
SDLP Brexit Spokesperson Claire Hanna has urged the NI Government to align with the Customs Union and the Single Market following Brexit.
Ms Hanna stated: "With the June summit just around the corner, isn't it time that those obsessed with politicking and polarisation got real. The interests of all citizens need to be put first and that means we must aim higher than the backstop."
She added that there was no other "realistic alternative".
The Dublin Government and European Union are currently working to stop any border in Ireland.
"The Dublin Government and the European Union are working hard to limit the damage of Brexit," Ms Hanna said.
"The SDLP welcomes their continued leadership and united front in terms of protecting citizens across this island.
"However, we are not blind to the reality that only the UK Government can opt to stay in the Customs Union and the Single Market. That is the only solution that will ensure there will be no economic borders anywhere on these islands.
"While the DUP and the Brexiteers want to scream and shout about infrastructural arrangements, it has become utterly embarrassing that not one of them can produce a credible explanation to what this means. These magical arrangements simply do not exist."
