Jeremy Corbyn Makes First Official Visit To Northern Ireland
The Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn is making his first official visit to Northern Ireland today, 24 May.
During a speech at Queen's University Belfast, Mr Corbyn said that Labour will not tolerate a hard-border in NI.
"Labour will not support any Brexit deal that includes the return of a hard border to this island," he said.
"We are also clear there must be no effective border created in the Irish Sea either."
The border issue has been a major hurdle in ongoing Brexit negotiations, with cross-border trade described as "crucial".
Mr Corbyn also outlined a proposal for a new EU-UK customs union that the party claim would prevent border communities becoming divided.
The Labour leader added that "maintaining an open border is not just about avoiding paperwork or tariffs, but serves as a symbol of peace".

An SDLP MLA has branded Jeremy Corbyn's Labour leadership a failure after he rejected the idea of a second referendum on Brexit. Claire Hanna, who represents south Belfast, made the comments after Mr Corbyn gave an interview with German newspaper Der Spiegel in which he said "we can't stop Brexit".
