McDonald's Refuse To Report On Plastic Straw Usage
Sinn Féin spokesperson on Energy, the Environment and Climate Change Cathal Boylan has expressed his disappointment that McDonald's has rejected a proposal to report on its use of plastic straws.
The Newry and Armagh MLA had recently supported an online campaign pressing McDonald's to end its use of plastic straws due to the impact on our environment and wildlife
Cathal Boylan said: "The company responded by saying the report was unnecessary and that it had already has set a goal for 2025 which will see all of its guest packaging including straws come from renewable, recycled or certified sources.
"It was a missed opportunity for McDonald's to lead the way but said he would continue to encourage companies to take action to reduce unnecessary plastic waste that damages our society."
Organised Gang Fight Stopped In North Belfast
Police intervened to stop a large "organised" street fight in the Ardoyne area of north Belfast last night.
It is understood that large groups of youths had gathered in the area at around 7pm on Thursday night and fights began to break out. However, police arrived at the scene within minutes and stopped the situation from escalating.
It has been claimed that the fight had been arranged using social media.
Major Road Improvement Scheme Announced In Chapeltown
A major road improvement scheme on the A2 Ardglass to Strangford Road at Chapeltown will start on Tuesday, 29 May.
The scheme, which will involve drainage works and the resurfacing of a 2km stretch of the A2 Strangford Road from its junction with Sheepland Road through Chapeltown to 150 metres beyond Church Road junction, will deliver significant improvements to both the structural integrity and surface quality of the road.
The work is expected to take eight weeks to complete.
