45-Year-Old Killed In Fatal Collision In Castlewellan

The PSNI have issued an appeal for information following a fatal collision in Castlewellan, Co Down.

A 45-year-old man, named by police as Gary Lennon, died after his BMW car crashed on the Dublin Road in Castlewellan at about 10pm on Thursday 31 May.

No other vehicle was involved in the collision.

Police closed the road for a number of hours on last night to allow for a forensic examination of the scene, however it has since reopened.

Anyone who was travelling on the road at the time of the crash, particularly any motorists with a dash cam, are urged to contact police.

SDLP South Down MLA Colin McGrath said: "This was a tragic incident and my sympathy, thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time.

"I understand that the PSNI are trying to piece together what happened and are appealing for information to help them. I would urge anyone who has any information or witnessed the accident to contact the PSNI.

"The times ahead for the family will be difficult but I know the local community will rally round and do all they can to help and support the family."

Investigation Launched After Teen Dies Suddenly In Portadown
Police have launched an investigation following the sudden death of a 15-year-old girl. Officers received reports that the teenager was unconscious in the Corcain area of Portadown on Saturday, 20 May. She was taken to hospital, however she died a short time later. Police confirmed a "possible link to drugs".

Condolences Open For PSNI Officer
People have been paying their respects to PSNI officer Philippa Reynolds, who was killed while on duty in L’Derry on Saturday. Two books of condolence have been opened in the city's Tower Museum and the Waterside Library, Glendermott Road. Constable Reynolds, 27, died in a crash involving a stolen car on the Limavady Road at 03:40 on Saturday.

Ards Man Fined For Dumping Waste At Bonfire Site
A 51-year-old has been fined for bonfire-related waste offences at Newtownards Magistrates' Court. Gareth Gill, of Abbot's Walk, Newtownards pleaded guilty to waste offences relating to a bonfire next to the electrical sub-station on the Circular Road in the town.
