Major Fire In South Belfast Believed To Be Deliberate
An investigation has been launched into the cause of a major fire at an old builder's yard in south Belfast.
Emergency services responded to reports of a fire on the Ormeau Road at about 7.30pm on Sunday, 24 June. The road was closed for a number of hours between University Avenue and Agincourt Avenue.
Firefighters from central Belfast, Springfield and Carryduff brought the blaze under control. Emergency services and the buildings owners remained at the scene overnight to make the site safe.
The Northern Ireland Fire Service have said that they believe the fire was started deliberately. It is understood that a number of young people were seen leaving the site shortly before "plumes of smoke" were reported coming from the disused building.

Number Of Roads Remain Closed Following Storm Ali

The Home Fire Safety Check coincides with Fire Safety Week, which runs from September 30th to October 6th. The initiative aims to reduce the number of house fires in Northern Ireland.

ASSEMBLY CREATE AWARD TO HONOUR FIRE SERVICE
THE Northern Ireland Fire Service is to receive the first ever award given by the province's devolved assembly. An illuminated scroll is to be presented to Chief Fire Officer John McClelland on Tuesday, by assembly speaker Lord Alderdice in tribute to the sacrifice made by fire fighters over the years.
