Refurb Work Complete At Blackie River Community Group
The refurbished facilities at Blackie River Community Group in west Belfast have officially opened.
The Department for Communities funded £303,000 towards the refurbishment of the building and the community garden.
Iain Orr from the Department said: "I am delighted to announce the completion of the new Community Garden and the comprehensive refurbishment of the building at the Blackie River Community Group premises at Beechmount Pass, West Belfast.
"In providing this funding the Department is helping to maintain valuable community services in the area. We wish Blackie River Community Group every success with their improved facilities."
McLaughlin & Harvey Scoops Design And Innovation Award
McLaughlin & Harvey has scooped a prize at the Schüco Excellence Awards for Design and Innovation 2018 for a project in Omagh.
The company won in the Health Project category for its design and installation of Schüco systems on the Omagh Hospital & Primary Care project.
The Omagh complex is a two-storey facility, within Tyrone and Fermanagh Hospital, that provides a range of primary, secondary and community healthcare services.
Work was conducted on the project by McLaughlin & Harvey's Frameworks division.
The Frameworks division supplied the curtain walling, structural glass assemblies, windows, doors, rain screen cladding, brise soleil, sliding doors, auto doors, rooflights, internal screens with built-in blinds, and internal fire-rated screens with built-in blinds.
John Monteverde, Head of Frameworks and Specialist Joinery, said: "We are thrilled to have been presented with such a prestigious national award for an innovation project like Omagh Hospital & Primary Care Complex."
Drugs Found In North Belfast
SDLP Cllr Paul McCusker has said that bags of drugs found by a local resident is an indictment of how prevalent the issue of drugs has become within the local community.
He said: "These drugs intended for sale, have life altering affects for those who buy and consume them.
"I would appeal to those profiting from this activity to stop and think of the damage and destruction they are causing to individuals and families within the community.
"My thanks goes to the resident who lifted the drugs off the street to ensure that they didn't land in the hands of anyone else."
