Man Dies In Police Custody

A man has died in police custody, according to Sinn Fein.

It is understood the 26-year-old died in the early hours of Monday morning, 09 July, after he was arrested following an incident in the Antrim Road area.

MLA Gerry Kelly expressed his sympathies to his family members.

He said: "I spoke with senior police and this death was automatically referred to the Police Ombudsman who is now is in charge of an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding this man's death in police custody."

A man who died in custody in Musgrave police station has been named as William Young. The 26-year-old was arrested over a disturbance at a bar in north Belfast. He died following medical treatment while in custody on Monday, 09 July.

Woman Arrested After Sudden Death Of Man In L'Derry
A woman has been arrested following the sudden death of a man in Magherafelt. A 46-year-old man died in L'Derry in the early hours of Tuesday, 05 December. Police are treating the death as suspicious. A 32-year-old woman has been arrested and is assisting police with their enquiries.

Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

55-Year-Old Man Arrested Over 1976 Murder
A 55-year-old man has been arrested in connection with Northern Ireland 36 years ago. William Palmer, 50, was shot at his home on Milltown Road in 1976. He died three days later in hospital from his injuries. The man was detained on suspicion of murder, possessing a firearm and membership of the IRA.
