Co Down Farmer Sentenced To Four Months In Prison
A County Down farmer has been sentenced to four months behind bars sentenced at Newry Magistrates' Court.
Mr Christopher David Potts pleaded guilty and was convicted of one charge of failing to notify the Department of the movement of six cattle onto his holding, two charges of failing to notify the Department of the movement of 19 cattle off his holding and two charges of failing to dispose of animal carcasses.
Mr Potts was sentenced to two months imprisonment in respect of the cattle movement offences and two months imprisonment in respect of the animal by-products charges, to run concurrently. He was also fined £1,000 plus a £15 offenders' levy.
£320,000 Road Resurfacing Project To Begin In Ballymena
Work is to begin on a £320,000 road resurfacing project in Ballymena.
Around 1.4km of Frys Road on the A43 Cushendall Road will be upgraded to improve both the structural integrity and surface of the road.
The scheme, which starts at Broughshane Road, will get underway on Sunday, 22 July.
As part of the project, a full road closures each night between 7pm to 6am from 22 July to 26 July and 05 August to 09 August.
In addition there will also be an out of town lane closure from Broughshane Road to Frys Road at 6am until 6pm from 23 July until 10 August. Diversions will be in place.
Secretary Of State Called To Take Other Decisions
Alliance MLA Chris Lyttle has said if the Secretary of State re-establishes the Policing Board, she should take other decisions to help end the political impasse here.
Mr Lyttle was speaking after media reports suggested Karen Bradley would bring forward legislation to the House of Commons to re-establish the Board, which currently doesn't have any legal authority to oversee policing due to the collapse of the institutions.
"Accountability is key to wider community confidence in the PSNI and the Policing Board is a crucial component of that accountability," he said.
"Alliance's Next Steps Forward document, released earlier this year and suggesting ideas to get the political process moving, recommended the re-establishment of the Policing Board. It is vital we have it in place as soon as possible - for example, the Chief Constable's contract is due to expire next July, so we face the prospect of a summer without a Chief Constable overseeing PSNI operations if there is no body to deal with appointments."
