Council Invests £125,000 In New Street Sweeper For Strabane
Almost £125,000 has been invested by Derry City and Strabane District Council in a new road sweeper lorry for Strabane town.
The new vehicle, which has additional brushes to carry out specific work on roundabouts, traffic islands and other road structures, brings the total number of road sweepers for Strabane town and District area to three.
Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor John Boyle, said the new sweeper will help service new housing developments in the District by keeping communities clean.
"Having a dedicated road sweeper lorry for Strabane town and two others vehicles for the surrounding villages including Artigarvan, Donemana, Ballymagorry, Sion Mills, Castlederg and Magheramason will be a great asset for the local area," he said.
Attacks On Northern Regional College Condemned
SDLP MLA John Dallat has condemned those responsible for repeated acts of vandalism carried out at the Northern Regional College, Coleraine.
Mr Dallat said: "This college has a proud record of achievement since it was first opened in 1935, providing countless people with an education and vital skills to go on to lead successful careers. It is sad that among today’s generation there are a few who don’t appreciate the wonders of education and in particular that of vocational education.
"Those involved in these mindless acts of vandalism would be better finding out more about the college and perhaps benefitting from the numerous courses on offer as oppose to engaging in pointless activity which serves no one and certainly not those involved."
New Pilot Bike Hire Scheme To Be Introduced In Bangor
Alliance Councillor Karen Douglas has welcomed a new pilot bicycle hire scheme that could have a major impact on tourism in the area.
Initially aimed at users of Bangor Marina, the scheme could be rolled out to the general public in the future if all goes to plan.
Ms Douglas said: "I was delighted to visit this fantastic scheme and would encourage as many people as possible who have access to make use of the bikes, making a full roll out possible at a later date.
"Across North Down we are blessed with some fantastic tourist sights, yet with such a busy town centre, this new facility will allow many the opportunities to navigate everything we have to offer with ease.
"I hope to see this scheme eventually rolled out across the borough and am looking forward to enjoying it myself when the time comes."

Business park extension to create 90 jobs
Around 90 new jobs are to be created in Co Tyrone thanks to a £1.2 million business park extension. Strabane Enterprise Agency announced the decision to extend its premises at Orchard Road Industrial Estate which will see an additional 22 units added to the complex.
