New Ballyhackamore Restaurant Damaged In Gas Explosion
Part of the Upper Newtownards Road in east Belfast remains closed following a gas explosion on Wednesday, 08 August.
Three fire crews and up to 16 ambulances responded to reports of an explosion "like a car bomb" in Ballyhackmore just before 4pm. The incident was discovered to be a gas explosion at the new Clay Oven Indian restaurant.
One man remains in hospital after being injured in the explosion.
The entire Upper Newtownards Road was closed for a number of hours following the explosion, but the city-bound lanes have since reopened. The country-bound lanes of the road – leaving Belfast – are expected to remain closed for a number of days while work is carried out to stabilise the damaged building.
