Dept Of Justice Seeks New Chair And Board For Probation Board Of NI
The Department of Justice has launched a recruitment competition to appoint a new Chair and 12 Board Members for the Probation Board for Northern Ireland (PBNI).
The role of the Probation Board is to help make communities safer by challenging and changing the behaviour of offenders. PBNI carries out a wide range of functions, from the provision of assessments and reports to the courts to working directly with prisoners preparing them for their subsequence resettlement in the community.
The Chair of the Board will be expected to provide strategic leadership and direction and will work closely with the Chief Executive. Board Members will support the Chair and their responsibilities will also include ensuring that PBNI complies with all statutory requirements for the use of public resources.
Anyone with an interest in the criminal justice system who believes they have the necessary attributes and experience to make a positive contribution to the work of the Probation Board is encouraged to apply.
Applications close at 12:00 noon on Friday 14 September 2018.
Four Vehicle Collision On Westlink
Four vehicles have been involved in a collision on the Westlink in Belfast this morning.
There are no reports on any injuries suffered by those involved in the crash.
Police have warned drivers of ongoing delays following the collision under the Broadway underpass, just before Stockmans Lane on the M1 city bound.
One lane of the road remains closed.
L'Derry Woman Convicted Of Benefit Fraud
A 42-year-old L'Derry woman has been convicted at Omagh Magistrates' Court for claiming benefits she was not entitled to.
Elaine Anderson of Bloomfield Park, Londonderry claimed Employment Support Allowance totalling £2,495 while failing to declare being abroad. She was given a Conditional Discharge for 24 months.
Ms Anderson is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Department.

Vilma Patterson has been appointed as Chair of the Probation Board for Northern Ireland. Mrs Patterson has been appointed following an open competition regulated by the Commissioner for Public Appointments Northern Ireland. She will take up office on 1 December 2012, succeeding Ronnie Spence.
