Paisley Won't Resign And Will Fight Any By-Election

Suspended MP Ian Paisley has said that he will not resign his position as he does not believe he has done anything wrong.

Mr Paisley was suspended from the House of Commons in July after it was found that he had failed to declare three family holidays that had been paid for by the Sri Lankan government.

He later petitioned the Prime Minister against supporting a UN resolution on Sri Lanka about alleged human rights abuses in the country.

Speaking to the BBC's Talkback programme, the North Antrim MP said: "If I believed that I'd done anything that deserved me to resign from my job I would not be there today."

Speaking about his suspension for the first time since his last appearance in the House Of Commons, he said: "I've let that stand - I have accepted the report from the House of Commons and apologised for it."

A recall petition has been issued in his North Antrim constituency, which could see Mr Paisley face a by-election for his seat.

Mr Paisley's parliamentary ban of 30 sitting days, is one of the longest ever handed down at Westminster.
