Appeal For Information On 'Paramilitary Style Attack' In L'Derry
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information following the report of a paramilitary style attack in the Ballymagroarty area of L'Derry on Friday, 31 August.
A man, aged in his 60s, was shot in the leg in what police have described as "a paramilitary-style attack".
Detective Inspector Stephanie Finlay said: "We received a report that a group of young males with their faces covered, knocked at the door of a house and forced a man to lie down on the ground, before firing a shot at him.
"The man was shot in the left leg but the bullet passed through and also grazed the back of his right leg. He was treated for his injuries in hospital.
"This was a brutal attack and yet another example of how criminal groups seek to control communities through fear and violence.
"If anyone has any information that could be useful to our investigation, they should phone detectives at Strand Road on 101, quoting reference number 1369 of 30/8/18."
Alternatively, information can also be provide to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.
Separately, police have also issued an appeal for information following a report of shots being fired at a house in the Rossnagalliagh area of L'Derry.
Police received a report that two shots were fired at a house in the early hours of Friday 31 August.
Detective Inspector Stephanie Finlay said: "We received this report just after 12.20am. Five people – a man, a woman and three children – were in the house at the time. Although none of them were injured, they were left shocked by what happened.
"Damage was caused to a vehicle parked outside the property and the living room window was smashed during the incident.
"Our enquiries are continuing and I would appeal to anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area around the time of the incident to contact detectives on the non-emergency number 101."
