Stationery firm sheds 150 jobs in east Belfast
One hundred and fifty jobs are to be lost in east Belfast following Victor Stationery's decision to relocate its manufacturing facilities to Estonia.
Trade union representatives confirmed the news on Thursday afternoon following meetings with the management of Victor Stationery.
The company's decision to close its manufacturing plant – based at Marshalls Road – represents a blow for the Castlereagh area, although the company will retain a head office in Belfast.
Victor Stationery, formed in 1882 by Robert McClay, is the largest exercise book manufacturer in the UK, as well as producing a wide range of other educational stationery products.
Breaking the news of the closure, the union said that the company faced intense competition from east European companies, with relocation representing the only viable option for the firm.
