Wild Stag Shot Dead In East Belfast
A wild stag running rampant in east Belfast has been shot dead by police.
Officers were called after it was reported the animal was running along the Gilnahirk Road in the early hours of this morning, Tuesday 30 October.
The stag narrowly missed a number of motorists and police tried to contain the animal, however this was not possible.
Inspector Eastwood said: "As the stag was in an extremely agitated and dangerous state, running wild in a densely populated area and posing a danger to motorists, police shot the animal dead."
It is understood the animal was shot humanely and died instantly. As this is the rutting season, stags are extremely aggressive and dangerous.
Police said it posed a real threat to members of the public.
