Thieves Target The Elderly In Newry And Lurgan
Older members of the community have been targeted in two separate burglaries in Northern Ireland.
Incidents in Newry and Lurgan saw intruders break into the residences of two elderly men.
Police said that two male suspects forced their way inside a property in Tasna Way, Lurgan, shortly after 8pm on Monday 29 October.
They assaulted a man in his 80's and threw him to the floor.
The house was then ransacked, before the intruders fled.
Superintendent Wendy Middleton said: "While the man was not physically injured, he was badly shaken. A woman in the house was untouched, but left very shocked.
"It is not known at this time what, if anything, was taken.
"This was a despicable act, and I am appealing to anyone with information they believe may assist our investigation to get in touch."
The men are described as having their faces covered and wore black woollen gloves.
In a separate incident on Monday evening, a gang of masked individuals forced their way into a premises in the Millvale Park area of Bessbrook, Newry.
It was reported to police at around 7.50pm.
The group took a safe containing a sum of cash.
Police said an elderly man was left "badly shaken" by the break-in and asked for anyone who witnessed the incident or saw any vehicles in the area at the time to contact them.

Man Released On Bail Over Lurgan Murder

A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a report of an assault at licenced premises at the Rathfriland Road area of Dromara. Detective Inspector Bell said: "Shortly before 10:10pm on Friday 15th December, it was reported that an altercation occurred at a bar in the area following three men refused entry to the premises.

Man Dies In Portadown Road Crash
An 18-year-old man has died following a collision in Portadown. The crash happened on the Dungannon Road between midnight and 12.30am on Wednesday, 08 November. The road has been re-opened. Elsewhere, a man, aged in his 30's, has died in a road collision in Co Antrim.

Man Shot In County Down
A 28-year-old man has been shot in the leg in a gun attack in County Down. The man was getting out of his car at the Quays in Killyleagh at about 1.00am on Wednesday morning when a man approached him and shot him. The man is recovering in hospital where his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Co Fermanagh man suffers broken nose in robbery
A Co Fermanagh man has suffered a broken nose after being assaulted by two men at his home in Enniskillen. The 65-year-old man was confronted by two men who forced their way into his home on Sunday. They then assaulted him before robbing his home. It is understood that a sum of money was taken during the robbery.
