NI's Citizens Advice Bureaux To Rebrand After HQ Closure
Northern Ireland's network of Citizens Advice bureaux are facing a rebrand after their regional headquarters went into administration earlier this year.
The HQ closed in June and it's UK sister organisation declined to take on its "financial liabilities".
There are 13 bureaux in Northern Ireland which are all independently-run charities.
They have been offered membership of a similar organisation, Advice NI, which would allow them to continue to provide the same functions under a new name.
Advice NI's Chief Executive Bob Stronge said the public would notice very little difficulties if the changeover goes ahead.
At least one of the 13 branches has welcomes the rebrand as an "opportunity".
The Department for Communities at Stormont held talks with other advice providers in a bid to secure the long-term future of the bureaux and approached Citizens Advice England and Wales.
NI Befriending Project To End Due To Lack Of Funds
A Northern Ireland charity has said its befriending service is to end in December due to a lack of financial support.
Action on Hearing Loss said the 'In Touch' Project, which has been running for six years, will end if it doesn't secure the vital funds it needs.
The service provides one-to-one befriending support to isolated elderly people across the region who are deaf or have hearing loss.
It was operated by a team of 88 trained volunteers who regularly visit people in their homes to spend time chatting, sharing hobbies and helping with various household tasks.
Jackie White, Director at Action on Hearing Loss Northern Ireland said: "Hearing loss can often cause people to miss out on conversations and become isolated from friends, family and colleagues.
"It can lead to stress, anxiety, depression and an increased risk of dementia. We want to raise awareness of the importance of this service during National Befriending Week (1-7 November) and we very much hope we will be able to secure further funding to be able to support those at risk in Northern Ireland."
Belfast Poetry Jukebox To Celebrate Irish Female Poets
A Belfast poetry jukebox is set to celebrate Irish female poets in its latest edition that opens tomorrow, Friday 2 November.
First launched at the 2017 Belfast International Arts Festival, it is a free, on-street sound installation that provides an innovative platform for the public to listen to poetry.
A Shadow Hid Me, the latest edition, celebrates the contribution of Irish women to the canon of Irish poetry.
Maria McManus, Artistic Director of Poetry Jukebox said: "These women poets have bright, erudite opinions on everything and the poems demonstrate that. What they speak of includes the personal and the political, intimate things and global things, big questions, sharp wit and an accurate scrutiny of the world, in all its beauty, its flaws and misdemeanours of its citizens.
"Nothing gets past these women. They see it all. Clearly, and all across time."
