Deputy Irish PM Promotes UK-Irish Friendship

The Tánaiste has said a strong UK-Irish friendship is more important than ever ahead of talks between senior Irish and UK Government ministers in Dublin.

Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Coveney and the country's Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan are set to welcome the UK Minister for the Cabinet Office, David Lidington, and the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland Karen Bradley at a meeting of the British-Irish Intergovernmental Conference.

In a post on Twitter, Mr Coveney said that he was looking forward to the meeting.

The conference comes as Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab arrived in Northern Ireland on Friday 02 November for a one-day visit.

He also met with Northern Ireland politicians at Stormont.

The power-sharing executive has been collapsed since January 2017 following a breakdown in relations between the DUP and Sinn Fein.

Larne Company Buys Out Insulation Firm For £4.5m

A Northern Ireland materials company has vowed to expand its products for the UK and Ireland after acquiring an insulation business for £4.5million.

Kilwaughter Minerals in Larne has bought Alumasc Facades from the Alumasc Group, based in Northamptonshire.

The Larne company said the deal was part of its plan to establish a sustainable business, which will include the appointment of a chief executive as the present managing director moves to a non-executive role.

Kilwaughter is an established quarry and mineral processor making limestone products under the K Rend and Kilwaughter Lime brands. It is also the UK's largest independent manufacturer of silicone and employs around 120 people.

The recent deal, however, means it now employs around 200 people across two manufacturing sites.

Sinn Fein To Accept Arlene Foster As NI First Minister

Despite previous dissent, Sinn Fein would accept the DUP Leader Arlene Foster as the First Minister of Northern Ireland, if devolution was restored.

The party's MLA John O'Dowd made the statement on BBC NI's The View, after earlier claims that Mrs Foster should step aside while the Renewable Heat Incentive scandal is investigated.

The recent statement reflects remarks from the party leader Mary Lou McDonald that "politics has moved on".

Mr O'Dowd agreed that Sinn Fein's stance on the matter has changed over time. He said: "Two years after Arlene Foster was effectively sacked as First Minister by Martin McGuinness, who the DUP choose as their leader- if and when we get to a position where we have an executive and a rights-based society- then if Arlene Foster is nominated as the joint first minister by the DUP, it's not up to Sinn Fein to object at that stage."

The DUP MLA Christoper Stalford responded that Mr O'Dowd was "arrogant" to suggest Sinn Fein had sacked Mrs Foster.
