Man Convicted OF Benefit Fraud
A man has been convicted for claiming benefits he was not entitled to at Downpatrick Magistrates Court.
Philip Thompson (38) of Osborne Drive, Killyleagh claimed Carer's Allowance totalling £3,939 while failing to declare employment. He was given a three month prison sentence suspended for 18 months.
Mr Thompson is required to repay all money wrongfully obtained to the Department for Communities.
Greenisland's Football Pitch Undergoes Redevelopment
Construction work has kicked off to redevelop Greenisland's football pitch into a new 3G surface.
The redevelopment of the site as a hub for local sports got underway earlier this year, which was identified as a key objective by the Greenisland Regeneration Group.
Mid and East Antrim Borough Council invested more than £500,000 in the scheme, along with £100k from Sport NI and a further £50k from the Alpha Programme.
Chair of the Greenisland Regeneration Group, Councillor Andrew Wilson, said: "This is a proud day for everybody associated with Greenisland.
"I am delighted the extensive works are well underway at Greenisland. The installation of the 3G surface will mean the local team and wider community now have a sports facility that can be used all year round, and the drainage works will substantially improve the surrounding pitches.
"Today's ceremony is the result of several years of hard work.
"I thank everybody involved in the delivery of this project and I look forward to seeing the next generation of talented players showcase and develop their skills right here in Greenisland.
"Our group remains fully committed to improving the community centre facilities and this investment in the Sports Hub shows our real intent to deliver the Greenisland Development Framework Masterplan for the people of Greenisland."
Aggravated Burglary In Ballynahinch Condemned
Sinn Féin MLA Emma Rogan has condemned an aggravated burglary at a house in Ballynahinch, County Down.
The South Down MLA said: "Reports of this incident in Ballynahinch which saw two women being tied up and locked in rooms in the house and one of them being beaten by three masked men are greatly disturbing.
"This was a terrifying experience for those involved and they have no doubt been left shaken by the experience.
"I would urge anyone with information on the incident to bring it forward to the PSNI."

A new state-of-the-art 3G football pitch and sports hub has opened for action in Greenisland, County Antrim. The facility follows an investment of £800,000 and will be open to the entire community as well as hosting Greenisland FC. The pitch features outdoor gym equipment and was jointly funded by Mid and East Antrim Borough Council and Sport NI.

Four Charged Over 'Skunk' Cannabis Find
