SDLP: Bombardier Job Cuts A 'Bitter Blow' In The Run Up To Christmas
An SDLP MLA is seeking an urgent meeting with Bombardier staff and unions following the announcement of 490 job cuts, a 10% slash of the workforce.
Pat Catney MLA said the redundancies are a "bitter blow", especially with Christmas fast approaching.
"I am seeking an urgent meeting with Trade Unions to identify what can be done to protect the livelihoods of workers at Bombardier," the Lagan Valley MLA said.
He also emphasised the need for a functioning Executive to mitigate the impact of the job losses.
"In the face of growing global protectionism and the continued uncertainty of Brexit, we need to see power-sharing re-established to deliver a Manufacturing Strategy for Northern Ireland that can create jobs and protect livelihoods."
Martin O'Neill Resigns As Republic Of Ireland Manager
Martin O'Neill has stepped down as the manager of the Republic of Ireland's football team.
Assistant manager Roy Keane, goalkeeping coach Seamus McDonagh, and assistant coach Steve Guppy have also left their roles.
The resignations follow an emergency meeting with the FAI chief executive John Delaney last night, Tuesday 20 November.
Mr O'Neill led the Republic to the Euro 2016 finals, where they reached the knockout phase before losing to France.
Rugby Captain Rory Best Receives OBE
Ireland's rugby captain Rory Best has been awarded an OBE at Buckingham Palace for his services to the sport.
The veteran hooker was joined by his parents, who were also decorated with MBE's, when he received the accolade from Prince Charles.
Mr Best is Ireland's most-capped forward with 113 appearances. He led the team to their 2018 Six Nations Grand Slam.

Unemployment Rate Drops In NI
The unemployment rate in Northern Ireland has dropped to 3.9%. The rate now stands below the UK average which is 4.4%, according to data released by the Northern Ireland Statistics Research Agency (NISRA). The number of people claiming job seekers allowance also fell by 700.

UK Govt. Criticised Over Public-Sector Job Cuts
Northern Ireland will be the UK region hardest hit by public sector job cuts. The Irish Congress of Trade Unions has said that 26,000 public sector jobs would go in NI by 2017. It said the executive must take firm action to defend the NI economy from the coalition government's plans.
