Man Escapes Injury In L'Derry Shotgun Attack

Police have launched an investigation after a gun attack in L'Derry, in which a driver was lucky to escape unharmed.

A masked man fired a shotgun at a van travelling along Clooneyville Avenue, shortly after 8pm on Monday 26 November.

The blast struck the rear of the vehicle, breaking the window and lodging pellets in the passenger head rest.

Police believe the gunman escaped on foot along the alleyway that runs down the back of Bonds Street.

Detective Constable Richard Donnell said: "Fortunately the 37-year-old male driver, who was alone in the vehicle, was unharmed.

"We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the Bonds Street, May Street, or Clooneyville Avenue areas at around 8pm on Monday night and who may have information that could assist the investigation."

Witnesses can contact detectives on non-emergency line 101 quoting reference 1193 of 26 November.
