Six Vehicles Destroyed In County Antrim Arson Attack
Six vehicles have been torched in an arson attack at a garage in County Antrim.
Five cars and a van were set alight in the incident at Dunlop Motors on the Woodburn Road in Carrickfergus in the early hours of Tuesday 27 November.
Business owner, Joe Dunlop, described the attack as "intimidation" by the East Antrim Ulster Defence Association (UDA), a known paramilitary group.
Officers on patrol in the area came across the blaze shortly before 2am, and contacted the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service to extinguish the fire.
Inspector Michael Simpson said: "Those responsible have shown no regard for the safety of the local community in carrying out this reckless act. Regardless of the motivation their actions are only increasing tensions and causing fear.
"I would appeal for anyone with influence to use it to prevent incidents like this happening again."
The arson comes only four weeks since Mr Dunlop's garage was targeted in similar circumstances on Halloween night, when six cars were destroyed.
At the time, the County Antrim man issued a clear message of defiance and said he would not be going anywhere, nor was he "going to hide under a rock".
The PSNI are appealing for anyone with information, or who saw anything suspicious in the area to get in touch using non-emergency line 101, quoting reference 72 of 27 November.
