Further Arrest Under Terrorism Act Linked To New IRA Weapons Find

A man has been arrested under the Terrorism Act by police following the discovery of suspected New IRA weapons earlier this month.

During a fire in a boiler house in west Belfast on 14 November, police found a significant haul of rifles and ammunition.

The weaponry is believed to have been used by the New IRA in previous crimes.

Detective Superintendent John McVea said the find was a "significant disruption" to the terrorist group, and that the firearms were likely the same ones used in attempts to murder police officers in the Rossnareen area in November 2015, and on the Crumlin Road in January 2017.

In reference to the latest arrest, a PSNI spokeswoman said: "Detectives from PSNI's Terrorism Investigation Unit have arrested a 20-year-old man under the Terrorism Act, in connection with the discovery of a significant amount of weapons and ammunition in the Rodney Drive area of Belfast on 14 November."

The suspect remains in police custody.
