New City Centre Walkway Opens To Alleviate Primark Fire Devastation
A temporary walkway in Belfast City Centre has opened, allowing eight businesses to begin trading again following the Primark fire.
The area was cordoned off for three months due to safety concerns, after a three-day blaze that began on 28 August destroyed the landmark Bank Buildings that housed the retailer.
Pedestrians can now use the thoroughfare to access shops and traders that were badly hit in the aftermath, in an effort to get people back onto the streets of Belfast ahead of Christmas.
Argento, McDonalds and Sketchers were all able to reopen on Monday 03 December.
Many are hoping the new development will be a path to normality as the city-centre has so-far been divided.
Primark's new store is due to open at Commonwealth House on Saturday 08 December.
