Five Romanian Men Beaten In Newtownabbey Hate Crime

A police investigation is underway after five men were beaten with baseball bats during an aggravated burglary in Newtownabbey, which police are treating as a hate crime.

The attack happened at a home in Hollybank Drive in Newtownabbey at around 8.20pm on the evening of Sunday 06 January.

A spokesperson said: "The five male occupants sustained a number of injuries as a result of the incident.

"One of the males was taken to hospital for treatment."

The victims are all originally from Romania.

Detectives are investigating the possibility of a hate motive behind the attack and are appealing for anyone who witnessed it or has any information that could assist their enquiries to contact Antrim station on 101, quoting reference 965 06/01/19.

Alternatively, information can be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous.

Paint Bombs Thrown In Race Motivated Hate Crime
Police are treating a paint bomb attack on a house in Newtownabbey as a racially motivated hate crime. Two men, two women and a young child were inside the Fernagh Avenue house when it was targeted in the early hours of Sunday morning, 24 November. Red paint was splattered over the front of the property at around 00.25am.
