Alliance Call For Bangor Park And Ride
Alliance representatives for Bangor West have said Translink have recognised the need to tackle the lack of Park and Ride facilities for commuters in the town.
A party delegation, including Councillor Scott Wilson and Council candidate Connie Egan met with Translink's Service Delivery Manager David Graham to present a petition calling for action on the problem, the latest stage of their campaign to establish a new Park and Ride.
The pair later said it was a productive meeting.
"This problem affects all stations on the line, but the problems at Bangor West are the most severe. The public clearly wants to a solution put in place to tackle these issues," said Scott Wilson. "It was a productive meeting in which it was clear Translink both take the issue seriously and recognise the need to tackle the problem by providing extra car parking spaces for those who use their trains."
"Going by this meeting, I am hopeful we can work with Translink to find a solution which works for everyone in the local area," added Connie Egan.
"A Park and Ride would be a suitable answer to the problem parking many residents are experiencing, as well as encouraging more people to use public transport and alleviate congestion on the A2. I look forward to continuing to work with Translink and other agencies to move closer to that outcome."

Translink Start Express Service To Cope With Glider Demand
High demand for Belfast's new Glider service in the East of the city has prompted Translink to introduce a new express bus service. The Urby express bus service will be introduced during the morning rush hour, from Dundonald Park and Ride, and a return service from the Europa during peak times in the evening and afternoon.

Free Park And Ride Launched For Christmas
Free park and ride services have been launched across Northern Ireland in a bid to encourage shopping and trade throughout the festive season. Transport Minister Danny Kennedy made the announcement and urged the public to take advantage of the scheme.

Bus Evacuated After It Catches Fire
A bus with 20 passengers had to be evacuated after it caught fire in Belfast. The double-decker bus was in York Street at around 7pm on Tuesday evening. The fire was spotted by another motorist. It is believed a technical problem may have started the fire at the back of the bus. No one was injured in the incident.

Heroin report cause for 'deep concern'
An assembly member has said the report out yesterday which revealed there are up to 1,000 ‘problem heroin users’ in Northern Ireland was a cause for deep concern. SDLP health spokesperson Annie Courtney said she was “dismayed” by the findings of the report which was commissioned by the Drug and Alcohol Unit of the Department of Health.

A scientific study has for the first time documented the extent of the heroin problem in Northern Ireland. The report commissioned by the Drug and Alcohol Unit of the Department of Health, "Prevalence of Problem Heroin Use in Northern Ireland" shows that up to 1,000 people are ‘problem heroin users’.
