'Dark Cloud' Over Newry After Three Bodies Found

The community of Newry has been left devastated after the bodies of three people were discovered yesterday.

Police found the deceased, a 38 year old male, 37 year old female and a 15 year old girl at a flat in Glin Ree Court at around 11am on Thursday morning, 07 March.

It is understood the alarm was raised by a concerned family member, prompting PSNI officers to force entry to the flat.

A murder investigation has been launched, and police are not currently seeking anyone else in connection with the deaths.

The victims have not been formally identified and no cause of death has been confirmed.

Detective Superintendent Jason Murphy said: "Our investigation is ongoing at present and our thoughts at this time are very much with the loved ones of those who have died."

SDLP MLA for Newry and Armagh Justin McNulty said the news cast a dark cloud over the city, and extended his thoughts to the family and close friends of the deceased.

SDLP Councillor Michael Savage added: "We believe a very tragic story is unfolding here. This news has sent shock waves across our city and has left many local people unnerved."

Meanwhile, Ulster Unionist Councillor David Taylor commented: "I am extremely saddened to hear of the tragic news breaking in Newry where the bodies of three people have been discovered at Glin Ree Court in the City.

"There is understandably great shock within the local community regarding this news and my thoughts and prayers are with the family members of the deceased at this time.

"Obviously the PSNI are in the early stages of their investigation into this incident and they will need time to establish the full details as to how these three tragic deaths have occurred."
