Police to re-interview man in connection with Omagh bomb

Police want to re-interview a man accused of being involved in the 1998 Omagh bomb atrocity.

Sean Gerard Hoey, 34, from, Jonesborough was charge last September with a number of terrorist offences, one of which relates to the 1998 bomb attack which killed 29 people.

Hoey, who is currently on remand at Maghaberry Prison, appeared before Craigavon Magistrates Court via video link on Thursday.

The court heard that authorities plan to apply to Lisburn Magistrates Court to ask for his return to police custody for further questioning next month.

However, no reason for the application to re-interview him was given.

To date only one person has been sentenced in connection with the Real IRA bombing which killed 29 people in August 1998.

In January 2002, Colm Murphy was jailed for 14 years in connection with charges relating to plotting the bomb attack.

Last August, the Special Criminal Court in Dublin sentenced the alleged leader of the Real IRA Michael McKevitt to 20 years in prison for directing terrorism in the period after the Omagh atrocity.
