Drugs Seized & Man Arrested In East Belfast
A man has been arrested on suspicion of drug supply offences following a proactive policing operation in east Belfast on Sunday afternoon, 31 March.
A haul of Class A and B drugs, including herbal cannabis with an estimated street value of around £25,000, were found inside a sports bag and seized.
It came about after officers on patrol on the Castlereagh Road at around 5.30pm noticed a male acting suspiciously. As they approached him, he dropped the sports bag he had been carrying and ran off.
Inspector Sayers explained: "The sports bag was quickly recovered and after a brief chase on foot, thanks to help from a passer-by, the male was located hiding behind a hedge at a nearby property."
The bag was later found to contain the drugs. Smaller amounts of suspected drugs and paraphernalia were also recovered during a follow up search of a nearby property. The male was arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A and B with intent to supply.
He has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
Police are appealing to anyone who knows anything about illegal drugs or drug dealing in their area to contact officers on the non-emergency number 101. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
