Ulster Unionist MLA Condemns Attack On Antrim War Memorial
An Ulster Unionist MLA has branded an act of vandalism on a war memorial in County Antrim as "an insult to our war dead".
The Knockagh memorial near Greenisland remembers those from the area who fought in both the First and Second World Wars.
It was discovered this week that the plaque marking had been vandalised, with the words scored out multiple times.
UUP MLA for east Antrim, John Stewart said: "This is a disgraceful & shocking attack carried out by mindless idiots who have clearly no respect for the sacrifice of our forefathers."
Councillor for the area and Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Lindsay Millar added that the vandalism was "completely disgraceful", and has contacted council officers to have the memorial repaired as soon as possible.
Appeal After Alleged Assault In North Belfast
Police are appealing for information after an alleged assault in north Belfast last week.
A 29-year-old male reported that he was assaulted by three males on Alliance Avenue, Belfast at around 11,45pm on Thursday 28 March.
He stated that he suffered punches to the head and kicks to the body during what is perceived to have been a sectarian hate crime.
The suspects are all described as being late teens or early 20s, all wearing tracksuits with local Belfast accents.
Anyone who may have information, who witnessed the attack or may have footage that captured this incident should contact Police at Tennent Street through 101, quoting serial number 1638, 28/03/19.
Plans For Social Housing Development In North Belfast Approved
Planning permission has been granted for new social housing at Carrick Hill in North Belfast.
Sinn Féin councillor JJ Magee welcomed the announcement for the "much needed" homes and pledged the party's commitment to continue to work with Carrick Hill residents to secure further housing provision.
Cllr Magee said: "Sinn Féin have campaigned alongside Carrick Hill residents to have these sites used for social housing.
"I would also urge the Housing Executive to pursue the acquisition of other sites as there are 36,000 people on the waiting list, 24,000 in acute housing stress and 12,000 of those in Belfast."
He added: "We will also continue to work with the Housing Executive and other relevant authorities to ensure more homes are built to meet the demand in North Belfast and across the north."

A new £5m social housing scheme in has been opened in north Belfast. The opening of the 40, two-bedroom apartments follows the development of Brookfield Mill, a former linen mill. The five-story accommodation was provided by Flax Housing Association with part funding from the Northern Ireland Executive through the Department for Social Development.

A new £25m housing scheme has been approved for the old Bass Brewery in west Belfast. Some 166 new homes will be built in what is being billed as one of the largest social housing schemes undertaken in Northern Ireland. It will also create much needed employment - with some 200 on-site jobs boosting the beleaguered construction industry.
