Concern For Jobs As Moy Park Temporarily Close Ballymena Factory

Up to 400 jobs may be in jeopardy at Moy Park in Ballymena as the company has temporarily halted one of its production lines.

Although the poultry firm said no roles will be compromised, the union Unite has reported fears among staff that the decision to cease processing live birds will be made permanent.

A Sinn Fein MLA is seeking urgent talks with the company to address the "very worrying situation".

Philip McGuigan commented: "I obviously welcome that the company has said there will be no job losses but there are still very real concerns as to how this halt will impact on the local workforce and economy.

"Given the loss of the Michelin and JTI plants in Ballymena, this announcement is another major worry for workers and the wider community."
