Small Grants Scheme Open For Volunteer Projects
Local communities in Northern Ireland are encouraged to apply for the 'Live Here Love Here' small grants scheme for volunteer projects.
Grants from £500 to £5000 are available for various initiatives as part of the scheme that takes a fresh approach to improving local environments and building pride in local communities.
Launched by local councils, the NI Housing Executive, McDonald's UK, Coca-Cola and Keep Northern Beautiful, it provides support to volunteer projects that:
• Improve the health and wellbeing of communities whilst helping to improve and/or maintain public spaces.
• Use innovative ways to reduce littering and dog fouling where you live.
• Improve the way your local environment is looked after, whether urban, rural or coastal.
• Contribute to the development of civic pride within a community with a focus on environmental improvement.

Over 400,000 Spend Local Applications Complete On Day One
More than 400,000 applications for the Spend Local were completed on the first day of the scheme, Economy Minister Gordon Lyons has announced, describing the response as "formidable". The portal for applications to the High Street Scheme opened on Monday.

Major Improvement Works Proposed For Duncairn Gardens
The Department for Communities has seeking input from the public on a proposed 'physical improvements' development in the Duncairn Gardens area. The aim of the Duncairn Gardens Development Study is to undertake open, transparent and meaningful engagement with stakeholders to fully understand their concerns and needs for the area.

Court Rules In Favour Of A6 Road Project
Sinn Féin has welcomed a court ruling supporting the A6 L'Derry to Belfast Road project. MLA Ian Milne said the upgrade is a "key infrastructural project". He said: "Today's court ruling clears the way for the work to commence on the Toome to Moyola River section of the scheme.

Christmas Card Scenes As Snow Blankets NI
Picturesque winter scenes across NI are today being further enhanced by fresh falls of snow blowing in from an Atlantic weather system. However, it is adding to the continuing Siberian freeze that has seen much of the British Isles grinding to a halt, with disruption in NI expected to continue into the weekend at least.
