Widespread Moderate Air Pollution Forecast For Easter Weekend
Moderate air pollution has been forecast for many areas of Northern Ireland this weekend, with a potential for high pollution in some parts.
The levels are a result of prevailing weather conditions, with light winds bringing air pollution from Europe and adding to the build-up of local pollutants.
People with lung or heart disease may experience a worsening of their symptoms during this period, which is expected to last until Sunday, 21 April.
Healthy people are unlikely to experience any ill effects.
Hourly updates on the levels of particulate matter can be obtained on the Air Quality website or via the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs website on 0800 556 677.
Work Progressing On New MUGA In Ballycarry, County Antrim
Work is progressing on a new MUGA pitch in the village of Ballycarry in County Antrim.
The scheme, which is being completed under the Village Renewal Programme, is on track for completion in June 2019.
The pitch is part of over £1.27 million being invested in 17 villages across Mid and East Antrim, with funding from the Council, DAERA and support from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.
A new floodlit polymeric rubber Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) will be constructed on the former all weather kick-about area beside the children's play area.
The rubber surfacing will facilitate a wide variety of sports and other activities including football with nets and line markings being provided. A basketball practice net is also included immediately outside the MUGA, as is a seating area for spectators.
Billy Thompson, Chairman of Ballycarry & District Community Association, said: "We are delighted the community will soon have access to this state of the art facility that will contribute to increasing the numbers participating in sport and physical activity.
"This new MUGA pitch will act as a hub for the community, encouraging more active lifestyles choices and creating a space for groups and teams to come together and socialise through sport."
Alliance Party Leader Naomi Long Launches Bid For EU Elections
East Belfast MLA and Alliance Party leader Naomi Long has announced she will be contesting a seat in the upcoming European elections.
After much speculation about the party's intention to forward a candidate, a post on Twitter today confirmed Mrs Long's bid for election to the European Parliament on 23 May.
It comes after SDLP leader Colum Eastwood announced he would also be standing for election as an MEP this month.

Heightened levels, classed as when there is more sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide and other substances in the air, are expected to persist until Wednesday 27 February, with the situation improving from Thursday onwards.

The Green Party has warned that polluted and poisonous air across areas of Northern Ireland is contributing to illness and early death. An investigation by party activist groups across the Belfast and Ards & North Down areas found that dangerously high levels of nitrogen dioxide (N02) were in the air- with levels breaching legal limits at 29 sites.
