Open Legacy Fund To Deliver Long-Term Benefits For Portrush
The Open golf tournament at Royal Portrush this July is set to bring lasting benefits for the North Coast, with an Open Legacy Fund of £100,000 due to help capitalise on the event.
A public information evening will take place at the Portrush Atlantic Hotel at 7pm on Monday 29 April to give local residents and community groups the opportunity to learn more about the scheme.
The funding of £100,000 is being made available through The Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews (R&A), which supports projects and initiatives that will have a positive impact on the local environment.
Hosted in partnership with Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, the event will mark the official launch of The Open Legacy Fund with an overview of funding eligibility, how to submit grant applications and assessment criteria. Community groups and organisations will then be invited to apply online.
Johnnie Cole-Hamilton, Executive Director of Championships at The R&A, said: "We fully recognise the vital role that the local environment and communities play in the successful staging of The Open, and we are committed to leaving a positive and lasting legacy for the venues we go to each year.
"We look forward to working with our partners to identify local projects and initiatives that will positively enhance the town of Portrush and provide benefits for its residents to enjoy in the years to come."
The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Brenda Chivers, added: "We are grateful to The R&A for their vision and foresight in ensuring that The Open makes a real and lasting difference in Portrush. The Legacy Fund represents a significant opportunity for the local community to identify projects and priorities which could further enhance the resort.
"I would encourage groups and organisations to think about how the Legacy Fund could be used and come together to make the most of this terrific opportunity. Anyone who is interested can find out more at our upcoming public information event and I would encourage as many people as possible to attend."
